Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or, failing that, the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent addition of unsourced material from even autoconfirmed accounts. ECP seems necessary at this point. Trailblazer101 (talk) 03:15, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended confirmed protection Article was protected for four days by Chetsford due to genre warring, edit warring, and general disruptive editing by IP editors, newly registered editors, and existing accounts that are rarely used. During that time, Chetsford acknowledged that another protection block would probably be needed after the four days and it absoulutely does as all of the previous behavior heavily continues. NJZombie (talk) 04:14, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Most of the recent edits (March-April) is vandalism by ip accounts and new accounts. —LastJabberwocky (talk) 10:43, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. —Ganesha811 (talk) 15:38, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent WP:DE from IPs.The article has had consistent disruptive editing from IPs for at least a year. It was protected in May 2024 for the same reason. An IP will continually add the same content over and over, all of it being violations of WP:V and against all guidelines at MOS:TV, will get reverted by multiple different editors, but will keep adding it over and over. These IPs have been a problem to several TV-related articles for years. They do not use edit summaries or respond to any talk page warnings. I've been monitoring this for several years, and dozens and dozens of IPs have been blocked from this. The only course of action is semi-protection to the article. The articles Zatima and Power Book IV: Force have also been targets of these edits and their semi-protection completely solved all the persistent disruptive editing. Please protect these articles for a long time. Thank you. Drovethrughosts (talk) 12:07, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Please see my reason for The Chi, as it is the exact same here. This is another target that the IP(s) edit. Drovethrughosts (talk) 12:08, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Since the creation of this page, all edits are either vandalism or reverting vandalism. Lova Falk (talk) 06:07, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: I'm wondering if it is appropriate to pre-emptively apply protection to be ready for new or inexperienced users editing the article from 6pm AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) onwards when preliminary results start coming in. Looking at this article's edit history, I think the constant reversions of a certain revision are turning into an edit war now, such as this edit having been reverted frequently in the past hour. Reason: Temporary semi-protection - Once again, page is exclusively being used either as a forum or in an attempt to contact the developers. S:N is all noise and no signal. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 06:17, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Remsense ‥  10:55, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Semi-protection request. Page is getting some light IP vandalism due to him currently being on the panel for the ABC's coverage for the Australian election. Shouldn't need it for more than 24 hours, 48 at the most. Kaotac (talk) 11:53, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Since prior protection lapsed, repeated unsourced additions have continued. Given that some newer autoconfirmed accounts are taking part, I am requesting ECP. Trailblazer101 (talk) 13:40, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. The unsourced contributions from auto-confirmed accounts have been few and far between since the last ECP expired – the most recent (Special:Diff/1287146745) on April 24. Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: The Wikipedia page for Reginald Wingate was semi-protected due to vandalism, but the issue has now subsided. I am requesting the removal of protection so that constructive edits can be made to improve the accuracy and completeness of the article. There has been no recent disruptive editing, and reducing the protection level will allow more users to contribute responsibly to the page. 2001:978:6402:37B6:4C1:F820:2800:4748 (talk) 12:55, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Of course there's been no disruption. That's what protection is good for. You're obviously the user whose contributions necessitated the protection, compare for instance 2001:978:6402:37b6:4c1:f820:2800:281c. Favonian (talk) 15:01, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
